In keeping our Valentine tradition, Grace and Faith chose a movie based on a Jane Austen novel to watch this weekend. They selected Sense and Sensibility (1995). I don't think Grace understood most of the dialogue, but she stayed with the movie's basic plot.
Remember this scene (near the end)? It had to be challenging to get it just right, but we think they did.

This is definitely in my top five favorite movies of all time. I think it's so beautifully-filmed, and it's really true to the book and Austen's characters. It helps that I love Emma Thompson as Elinor ... did you know that she won an Oscar for her work adapting the novel as a screenplay? And that scene makes me cry every time. OK. End gushing.
The complexity and depth of the conversation in the movie is refreshing; you have to work to catch some of the embedded wit and that's the way it's meant to be.
It's also remarkable that the book's author was a teenager!
